  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 2 teaspoons ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 large egg yolks
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract (alcohol-free)
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar for coating
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg for coating

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cream of tartar, nutmeg, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together softened butter and granulated sugar until smooth.
  4. Beat in the egg, egg yolks, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  5. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until just combined; add extra flour if dough is sticky.
  6. Roll tablespoon-sized portions of dough into balls and coat them with a mixture of sugar and nutmeg.
  7. Place on lined baking sheets about two inches apart and bake for 9–12 minutes until set on top.
  8. Allow to cool before serving.
